Restoration works with its clients to foster sustainable landscapes
ranging from forest preserves to private residences. We are looking

integrity and beauty of our clients’ land and water resources. Our
Seasonal Restoration Technicians join our full-time staff on a wide
variety of ecological restoration projects from installing native
plants, mowing, selective application of herbicide to invasive
species, and more!
Tallgrass Restoration employs Restoration Technicians on a seasonal
basis, when most manual labor-intensive projects are completed.
Seasonal positions typically run April through November, however this
is flexible. The preferred candidate will have a background in plant
identification (native and invasive species), small tool/equipment
operation and ecological restoration activities, as well as hold a
State issued Pesticide Applicator's License.
BASIC FUNCTION & ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Participate in work teams to complete the installation of ecological
restoration projects and provide stewardship activities. Job duties
will include carrying out tasks related to prairie, wetland, woodland
and other natural community restoration, installation and stewardship.
Specific job tasks may include:
- Installing plants and seed
- Mowing grass/brush
- Cutting and piling brush
- Invasive species control
- Controlled prescription burning
- Herbicide application utilizing backpack sprayer
- Erosion control activities
- Utilization of hand tools and small gas-powered machinery
including chainsaws, weed whackers, walk-behind mowers and ATV
- Utilization of tractor with various attachments, driving truck and
trailer combination, if necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned
Work schedule – 35 to 50 hours per week, 4-6 days depending on
weather and work load. Some overnights may be required, with per diem
reimbursed to employees. Employees may be required to meet on site for
some projects, with excess mileage expense reimbursed, so reliable
transportation is needed.

Experience:
- Hands-on plant identification, small tool/equipment operation and
ecological restoration activity exposure
- Ability to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions
- Strong oral communication skills
- Enthusiasm, strong work ethic, courteous and positive attitude,
team player mentality
- Operation of skid loader and other large machinery a plus
- Participation in controlled prescription burns a plus
- Must be 18 or older
Certifications Required:
- State issued driver’s license that is free from suspension or
revocation during term of employment
- Must be able to obtain state issued Pesticide Applicator's license
within 30 days of employment
Physical Demands:
Manual Dexterity – Work requires regular speed and accuracy for most
of the working day.
Physical Effort – Work requires heavy muscular effort or exertion,
but not continuous. Employees shall be able to lift 50 lbs.
Working Conditions – Exposure to disagreeable conditions (outdoors in
all elements), requiring use of protective equipment.
